“Life on a Harp String”

A musical evening again this year for our Christmas event – in the unlikely shape of a harp!

The instrument has existed for some 30,000 years, and to emulate Tom Lehrer: There’s Jew’s harps and Thumb harps/and ancient Aeolian/pedal, diatonic/Gaelic, Welsh and Babylonian.

Margaret  - who can sing, play baritone horn and drums, and loves rhythm - gives recitals as a soloist everywhere from The Ritz to Glyndebourne Opera House, from Battle Abbey and Wimbledon Tennis to Penshurst Place, where she is Resident Harpist. (And she played the harp with local celebrity Sue Perkins on BBC2).

We’ll have the tables out and the usual interval for food and drink, and Margaret will entertain us by talking about the harp and demonstrating what it can do. Most unusual.
