11 January                  Ken James

“Maggie Thatcher”

What more is there to say about the redoubtable Margaret Hilda Thatcher, chemist, would-be barrister, milk snatcher, saviour of the Open University, Iron Lady – opponent of: trade unions, Scottish devolution, too much EU, and Edward Heath. Well, there’s Ken James’s alternative, possibly revisionist view, tracing her progress all the way from Grantham grocer’s shop to becoming Prime Minister in 1979.

Ken was deputy headmaster of Archbishop Tenison’s School for 25 years and chief examiner in history for London University, so he should know. Enjoyable nostalgia evening of monetarism, riots, poll tax, council house sales, the Falklands, privatisation, de-regulation. Handbags at 8 o’clock sharp.
