“Steam to Mandalay”

Another in our extensive travel series, this time taking you by vintage steam train on a 1,200 mile tour of the reclusive country of Burma – now Myanmar, the ‘Land of Gold and Green’. The journey brings magnificent religious sites, beautiful scenery, and encounters with friendly local people. Myanmar is one of 40 countries Surrey native Paul Whittle has visited, including Syria and Eritrea. He is vice-chairman of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Society and gives some 150 talks every year to raise money for charities which support young children and students in India and Myanmar.
